A Mouse Gives Malia Hope She’ll Beat Cancer

Our Small Miracles program provides customized experiences or gifts for children who are undergoing cancer treatment.  These Small Miracles are created by members of Team Endure to Cure who have made a choice to push themselves beyond their perceived limitations to reach the finish line of endurance events of all kinds.  They never ask why they are doing what they do because they know why.

Vasilis Toxavidis of Attleboro, MA joined Team Endure to Cure this past summer with the goal of finishing the Providence Half Ironman and creating a Small Miracle.  He had little experience with triathlon, but he knew his effort and fundraising would make a major difference in the life of a child battling cancer.  He was right.  His fundraising allowed Malia–a 4=year-old who is fighting Stage 4 neuroblastoma at Boston Children’s Hospital–to realize her dream of going to Walt Disney World to meet Mickey at the Magic Kingdom.

According to Malia’s father, Glen, everybody had a fantastic time and Malia was happier than she has been in a long time.  Here is what he had to say:  “Malia had the best time on her Small Miracle trip.  The Polynesian Resort was something out of a dream.  The resort had a water slide that Malia went on at least 40 times.  We actually stayed at the resort instead of going to the park one day because she loved the pool and the grounds so much. We cannot thank the efforts of Vasilis, those who donated towards his event, those who donated passes to the parks, and everything Endure to Cure did to plan such a spectacular time for Malia.  This experience has added so much hope to Malia’s fight for a cure.  This is something we never could have done without Endure to Cure.”

This Small Miracle was made possible by the effort of Vasilis Toxavidis, our Team Endure to Cure member who raised funds and successfully completed his first half- and full-Ironman triathlons.  Thank you to all of our selfless donors and sponsors who support our cause to make our mission possible.  If you are interested in becoming somebody’s hero today, click here to learn more!
