Lila’s Long Hospital Stays Are Now Interactive!
Our Small Miracles program provides customized experiences or gifts for children who are undergoing cancer treatment. These Small Miracles are created by members of Team Endure to Cure who have made a choice to push themselves beyond their perceived limitations to reach the finish line of endurance events of all kinds. They never ask why they are doing what they do because they know why.
Julie Vernon from Kialua-Kona, Hawaii joined Team Endure to Cure with the goal of finishing her first marathon and creating a Small Miracle. She had no experience with long distance running, but she knew her marathon journey would raise more than just a sweat and she was right. Her fundraising allowed Lila–who is battling Stage 4 neuroblastoma at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, OR–to receive an iPad Mini which will transform her long hospital stays from chronic boredom to interactive. The iPad will allow her continue to learn, play games, and watch movies! This should also help keep her inspired and her mind off the fears of cancer and treatment.
Lila’s family was incredibly grateful for the support. Here is the message Lila’s father, Ryan, wanted us to pass along to our donors, sponsors, and team members: “A heartfelt thank you to you and all those involved in the Endure to Cure organization. It means the world to have the support during what is truly the most devastating experience a family can endure. When at our lowest we find it is people like those involved with Endure to Cure that hold us up as we concentrate all our efforts to pull our daughter through this. Even at her lowest, it is the little smiles and laughs that bring hope. The kids fighting for another day are the ones who show us what it means to truly live. They all deserve to be saved. Lila’s smile could not have been bigger as we presented her with your gift. Thanks again!”
This Small Miracle was made possible by the effort of Julie Vernon, our Team Endure to Cure member who raised funds and will complete the Honolulu Marathon on December 9th, 2012. Thank you to all of our selfless donors and sponsors who support our cause to make our mission possible. If you are interested in becoming somebody’s hero today, click here to learn more!
