Children’s Musician Laurie Berkner Inspires Girl Battling Cancer
Abigail–or Abby to those who know her–is just 4 years old and facing the diagnosis of ALL leukemia, and was one of the most recent recipients of a Small Miracle. Her parents contacted us requesting a family trip to Sesame Place, an amusement park in Pennsylvania, to see Abby’s favorite performer and singer, Laurie Berkner. We were delighted to be able to send Abby, her mother, and her brother Luke on an expenses-paid two-day trip to Sesame Place. Abby and her family arrived at the hotel to find a surprise care package in their room with an autographed picture and CD of Laurie Berkner along with other small gifts. Abby and her family also attended a backstage Meet & Greet where Abby made such an impression that Laurie Berkner’s group offered to give her a backstage tour at their show in NYC over the holidays.
This Small Miracle trip allowed Abby the chance to feel like a kid, full of enthusiasm and adventure, and to spend quality time with her family for the first time in months. Abby and her brother Luke were able to act like any other brother and sister duo, away from the stresses that come from childhood cancer treatment, and just have fun.
Abby’s mother had this to share: “I want to thank you and Endure to Cure for arranging the Sesame Place weekend. Both Abby and Luke had a great weekend… The kids still talk about Sesame Place and Abby goes to sleep every night listening to the autographed CD she received from Laurie Berkner.”
