How Noah is Fighting Cancer With Fun

Noah, a 5-year old boy from Tennessee, was one of our most recent Small Miracles recipients. After being diagnosed with strep and then the flu, and then having a continuing fever, it was discovered that he had ALL Leukemia. Noah’s favorite place in the world is his swing set. During the next two and a half years of treatment there would be times where Noah could be at home if his counts were low, during which he spent a lot of his time on his swing set, just being a kid. Unfortunately, this swing set was old and was beginning to fall apart. Noah’s parents contacted us requesting a new set so Noah would have a fun, safe place for him to play.

The plan was for Noah to come home from treatments at the hospital to find that his old swing set was replaced with a brand new one equipped with a zip line and other fun amenities. However, things did not go as planned, for us or for Noah. His counts were too low to receive treatments, so he was stuck at home. Despite this, our plan evolved into something even better. Noah watched confused as volunteers came and tore down his old swing set, but as soon as he saw more volunteers arrive with new wood and equipment a smile lit up his face. He joined the workers and was even able to help at times to construct his new play area. Noah was given the gift of childhood play with a safe and adventurous area in his own yard where he could escape from the realities of cancer treatment – a true gift at one of the toughest times of his life.

His mother wanted to share this message: “We admire and respect the effort these Endure to Cure runners as well as the volunteers from our church who have generously come together to make this experience happen for Noah. It is been a long time since we have seen him this happy. Thank you Endure to Cure. Your team is a special one.”
