Ben’s Small Miracle: Intermission with the Boston Bruins
Ben, at only 11 years old, was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. He endured surgery to remove a tumor from his small intestine and the following two rounds of chemotherapy. Luckily, that was all the chemo that Ben needed, but he still missed out on much of his summer vacation and the beginning of the school year. Between the rounds of chemo and a hospitalization for a fever and low blood counts after his second round of chemo, he was a young boy missing out on some important childhood experiences.
Ben loves the Bruins, and all sports in general, so his parents requested tickets to a Bruins game so that he would have the opportunity for a much-needed and enjoyable diversion. This was especially important to them because Ben lost out on many fun activities over the summer, and had to return to school exhausted and bald. We provided Ben and his cousin with two center ice tickets just 8 rows from the rink, including limo transportation to and from the game. Ben also got to go down to the locker room during the 2nd intermission and send the players out onto the ice for the 3rd period. Ben’s words during this memorable experience simply were, “This is amazing!” Ben and his family are currently waiting for a scan to confirm that he is in remission, and we are wishing them all the best.
Ben’s Aunt said: “Thank you so very much for treating my nephew, Ben, to an awesome day at the Bruin’s game. He had a fabulous time and couldn’t stop talking about his afternoon. Your kindness is over the top!”
