I believe that personal limits may be crushed when combined with a higher purpose and meaning!

I have been an athlete my whole life, from growing up playing ice hockey, baseball, football, and soccer to recently concluding a Division I Ice Hockey career at the United States Air Force Academy. I have always competed in sports due to my competitive spirit and in some ways a selfish journey for recognition and glory. I took up running after my hockey days were over and it has been a great way to stay in shape and burn off the stress of a career in the military. I completed the Air Force Marathon last September making that my first marathon. Completing that race could have been the hardest thing I have done in my life, but once I crossed the finish line, I felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment that left me no choice but to sign up for another one! I joined the Endure to Cure team because I want every child to have to ability to realize their dreams and have the ability to feel the same sort of accomplishment I felt when I crossed the finish line. Endure to Cure can give pediatric cancer patients that chance and I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to raise money for such a worthy cause.

My fellow team of Endure to Cure Chicago Marathon runners and I, along with other dedicated fundraising athletes within our foundation, are trying to helping launch our Travel for Treatment Grant Program. Endure to Cure's Travel for Treatment Grant Program helps families who are experiencing financial hardship with travel costs associated with their child's cancer treatment. Many of us in larger cities take for granted the availability of medical treatments. But nearly 60% of children diagnosed with cancer must travel over 50 miles to get to their nearest oncologist. Unlike the direct costs of medical treatment which are usually insurable or able to be financed over time, the cost of transportation to and from treatments are incurred immediately and directly out-of-pocket. Endure to Cure helps qualifying families by providing grants up to $5,000 to fund the various travel costs associated with their child's treatment.
