As we all know, cancer knows no limits. It strikes without discrimination. And it’s painful—painful for those who become afflicted with the disease and painful for the family, friends and loved ones of those afflicted. Endure to Cure is a non-profit organization founded specifically to aid, in various aspects, children afflicted with cancer. Endure to Cure athletes are people who have joined in a mission to test their own personal physical limits for a higher purpose. There’s a lot to be said about reaching a goal driven by the desire to help others.
I have joined in a group of Endure to Cure members who will be running the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 9th. For many of us, this will be our first marathon. My personal goal is to raise $5,000 for this event. All funds being raised at this time are being used specifically to fund a 2-yr. pediatric cancer survivorship study at the Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. The study will enable a clinical psychologist to research methods to reduce the long-term effects of harsh treatments on pediatric cancer patients. Many people do not realize that 60% of pediatric cancer patients will suffer long term side effects, often times severe, after they become "survivors." Post-survivorship is a very underfunded and under-examined area of study. This study can have an immediate impact with patients the psychologist examines, and a long-term effect as more data can be used to put new post-survivorship treatment methods into place.
Please help me in reaching my goal for this event. Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated!
