Many people ask me what makes me wake up every morning at 5:30am and train like a crazy person for hours even on weekends. For too long, the answer to this question was focused only on me, on my goals, on my search for glory. My sense of accomplishment was just the pleasure of completing another challenge. When I finished my first Ironman, I thought that there was no better sense of accomplishment in life than finish that race. But now, I have higher purpose--to help the fight against pediatric cancer. It is what pushes me when I feel like I can not go on.
When I think about children with cancer, I see that the challenge of an Ironman is nothing compared to what they suffer through everyday. For this reason, I have completely changed my reason for achieving my goals. When I compete, my objective is not just reduce my time or overcome my record, but change someone's life and inspire other people. I can assure that the smile on those children’s face is more rewarding than any medal I can win. Therefore, I invite you to part of this wonderful journey through participation or a contribution. I am sure together we can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
Contributions to my effort will help Endure to Cure fully-fund a survivorship study at the renowned University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital in 2011 and 2012. Few people know that 60% of pediatric cancer survivors suffer long-term side effects, often times severe. This study will enable a clinical research psychologist to work with survivors, collect critical data, and help put new post-survivorship treatment methods into place. This will have an immediate and long-term impact on the cause.
Thank you!
