Climbing Mount Everest - In Chicago

Posted: 01/19/10

Endure to Cure & Universal Sole partner for charity climb-a-thon on Friday, Jan. 22

WHAT:

On Friday, Jan. 22, Endure to Cure founder Jason Sissel will attempt to climb 30,000 feet—a height roughly 1,000 feet higher than Mount Everest—on a treadmill at Universal Sole Running Store.

Sissel will climb on an inclined treadmill—with fully loaded pack and climbing boots—from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m and is inviting supporters and donors to join in this feat while raising funds to provide “small miracles” to kids in Chicago who are fighting pediatric cancer. Supporters can join in by running or walking on an additional treadmill to show support, take part in in-store raffles and promotions, enjoy food and beverages, and shop at Universal Sole. 10% of all purchases that day will go to support Endure to Cure. The raffle will include various prizes from businesses around Chicago, with two grand prize packages of a full Bank of America Chicago Marathon package awarded to one male and one female, which includes: a marathon entry, professional coaching, gait analysis, and all running gear.

WHEN:

Friday, Jan. 22nd from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

WHERE:

Universal Sole Running Store, 3052 N. Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL 60657

BACKGROUND:

This mock-Mount Everest climb is just the beginning for Sissel. On Jan. 26, he will leave to climb Africa’s highest peak, 19,340-foot Mt Kilimanjaro, immediately followed by climbing South America’s highest peak, Mt. Aconcagua, at 22,834 feet. These climbing feats are all part of Sissel’s Endurance Campaign to create awareness and raise funds for children battling cancer. Sissel hopes to raise $3 million for the cause by climbing the Seven Summits of the world and completing many other ultra-endurance triathlons and running events. On Friday, Endure to Cure will also be recruiting fellow Chicagoans to join its team of fundraising athletes for the Chicago Marathon and become an important part of this effort to help the fight against pediatric cancer.
